Yesterday, the 1st of February 2016,several Media Houses carried a story attributed to our National Secretary, Hon Mwansa Mbulakulima stating that the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) National Executive Committee (NEC) in its sitting on Saturday 30th January 2016 resolved that “MMD had unconditionally agreed to get into an alliance with the PF”.
Please note that the correct and official resolutions of the said NEC meeting are as contained in the official party communiqué which was issued at the party secretariat on 31st January 2016 and read out to the media by the Deputy National Secretary, Ms Winnie Zaloumis.
The correct resolution on that agenda item was that the NEC mandated me as party President to further engage President Edgar Lungu to look at modalities of the proposed alliance and report back to NEC in order to ascertain the course of negotiations.
In the meantime, the party regrets any misunderstandings that could have been created by the earlier statement.
